Lil Mama pulls on icons
AMERICAN HIP hop artiste Lil Mama has ‘borrowed’ some of Jamaica’s iconic symbols on her comeback project.
Her video Sausage, released last week, boast a Jamaica flag as well fire torches and what appears to be a Rastafarian-coloured (red, green and gold) bamboo fencing.
In video, she dances with the Jamaican flag in her hand to the blurb: “Now mi get serious”.
A mix of ’90s and current hip hop, Sausage promotes safe sex and has received mixed reviews on social media.
A former America’s Best Dance Crew judge, Lil Mama (Niatia Kirkland) played Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes in the popular VH1 biographical movie CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story in October 2013.
Her debut studio album Voice of the Young People released in April 2008 spawned four hit singles: Lip Gloss, G-Slide, Shawty Get Loose and What It Is. The set sold 19,000 copies in the first week, debuting at number 25 on the Billboard 200.
