Wonder-ful performance at Doctor’s Cave
MONTEGO BAY – Singer Wayne Wonder was out to please when he took the stage for the second We Are Reggae show, held at Doctor’s Cave Beach on Saturday night.
After being introduced by MC Barry Gordon close to midnight, the Grammy-nominated Wonder started his set with I Still Believe, and immediately had patrons rocking and singing.
He scored well with Searching, Watching You, Joy Ride, Fast Car, Saddest Day, and ended the first segment of his performance with Dedicated to My Favourite Girl.
After a 15-minute break, Wonder upped the tempo, mixing and mingling with seated patrons. He dug deep into his large catalogue, delivering several other hits including Forever Young, Anything for You, Heal the World and No Letting Go.
He closed a satisfying set with Marijuana, earning resounding applause from the fans.
Earlier, cabaret singer Shawn Campbell, who opened the show, gave a good account of herself.
“We are very pleased. Despite the heavy showers during the day of the event, we are satisfied with the turnout and with the performances from Wayne Wonder and Shawn Campbell,” said Peter Lloyd, one of We Are Reggae’s promoters.
The monthly series kicked off in April with Freddie McGregor. It is scheduled to continue at Doctor’s Cave Beach on June 27 with Sizzla Kalonji.
