Chain-grabbing teen blames hunger
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A chain grabber was fined J$25,000 when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
Kemo Jahdean, 18, was hit with the fine after pleading guilty with explanation to a charge of larceny from the person.
He reportedly snatched a 14 carat gold chain from his victim late afternoon on May 23 on Heywood Street, and fled through a market before being pointed out later by the woman he robbed.
The chain was recovered from his pocket.
On Wednesday, Jahdean told Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey that he isn’t that type of person.
“Mi no know a wha get into me. Is just hunger,” he said.
Pusey asked the accused man if he had enjoyed his stay in custody, to which he replied, “Round there ruff!”
Pusey promised the teen that she would send him to prison if he’s again to be convicted by her.
