Farewell, ‘Kubba’
NEGRIL, Westmoreland
THE thanksgiving service for the life of 57-year-old Clive Dale ‘Kubba’ Pringle, operator of the MX3 Lawn here in Negril, is tentatively set for Saturday, July 4.
Pringle died about 1:37 pm last Friday at the Cornwall Regional Hospital in Montego Bay, where he was admitted after suffering a massive stroke.
The popular Negril native who was a ganja legalisation advocate, was one of the founding members of the Westmoreland Ganja Farmer’s Association and a prominent businessman who sat on the board of the Negril Chamber of Commerce.
He also initiated the Negril Cluster, a group of business owners from the community. The Cluster spearheaded the renaming of West End to One Love Drive.
But he is best known for operating the MX3 Lawn which he established following his return to the island in 1990, after residing in Toronto, Canada and New York, USA, where he spent several years.
The MX3 Lawn is the home of the annual Bob Marley Birthday Bash and several reggae concerts which have featured most of the big names in the local music industry.
Kisha McPherson, niece of the deceased, who describes her late uncle as a visionary, disclosed that the family has plans to establish the Clive ‘Kubba’ Pringle Foundation as a legacy of the popular Negril personality.
“He’s a visionary, one who sees opportunities to do things even before we can conceive them,’ McPherson reflected.
“One of the most important things about him is his commitment to his Negril community. We call him the son of Negril,” she said.
