ONLINE POLL RESULTS: Readers split 50/50 on J’cans in Diaspora voting in elections

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Fifty per cent of the respondents to the OBSERVER ONLINE poll believe that Jamaicans in the Diaspora should vote in elections.

The 50/50 split comes after 4,617 responses to the question: “Should Jamaicans in the Diaspora be allowed to vote in elections?”

At the start of the Sixth Biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference in Montego Bay, St James, recently, State minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Arnaldo Brown said the matter of overseas Jamaicans being allowed to vote in elections is “not dead”.

Opposition Leader Andrew Holness also agrees with members of the Diaspora voting in general elections. He suggested that this move be crafted in such a way that “they vote in a constituent, and, therefore, it is a constituent vote, rather than deciding the Government”.
