Cech finally joins Arsenal
Arsenal has finally completed the transfer of goalkeeper Petr Cech from Chelsea for an undisclosed fee. The 33-year-old leaves Chelsea after 11 seasons at Stamford Bridge and joins Arsenal to solve their goalkeeping woes. The Czech Republic international has won four Premier League titles, four FA Cups, three League Cups, a Europa League and the Champions League during his time at Chelsea. Wenger has shown he still has the ability to sign world class players and the fans will no doubt be looking for more this summer. A defensive midfielder and/or striker, maybe?
Liverpool close in on Clyne
The Reds of Anfield are almost ready to complete their second signing in just over a week. Reports in England suggest that Nathaniel Clyne is set for a medical with Liverpool today ahead of his 12.5 million pound transfer from Southampton. The 24-year-old England right back is expected to sign a five-year deal at Anfield and slot into the team’s starting eleven, replacing Glen Johnson after his contract expired. Clyne would become Liverpool’s sixth summer signing after James Milner, Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan, Joe Gomez and Roberto Firmino.
Meanwhile, Liverpool target Carlos Bacca confirmed he has agreed personal terms regarding a transfer to Italian club AC Milan. The Colombian forward, who has enjoyed two successful seasons at Sevilla so far, said “we’ve reached an agreement with Milan, which is the club with 100 per cent of the possibility [of signing me].” Liverpool will need to look elsewhere to find cover at striker.
Tevez returns to Boca
Argentina forward Carlos Tevez has completed his transfer to hometown club Boca Juniors from Italian giants Juventus. Boca Juniors paid Juventus an undisclosed fee, and the transfer is already described as a major coup, after Tevez scored 20 goals to help Juve retain their Serie A title. Tevez returns to South America after winning five league titles across three different clubs in nine seasons of European football. The deal was announced during Argentina’s penalty shootout win over Colombia in the Copa America last Saturday.
United fans uneasy
It’s July and Manchester United has signed only one player this summer. The fans at Old Trafford are no doubt disturbed by the lack of developments. However, United seemed to be strongly linked with a number of players with rumours gathering pace daily. Sergio Ramos is the name on every Man U fan’s lips, reports suggest Real Madrid rejected a bid around 28 million pounds for the defender, with Ramos reportedly keen on a move.
Also, a deal for Morgan Schneiderlin has been reported as close for a number of weeks now. If the transfer is completed then Schneiderlin would be a welcomed signing by United fans as the 25-year-old Frenchman would help bolster the options the holding midfield position.
