Cavalier blank Waterhouse to capture Tastee/KSAFA U-17 crown
CAVALIER SC defeated Waterhouse FC 2-0 to win the Tastee/KSAFA Under-17 football competition in the final played at the Barbican playing field on Saturday.
The final was played over 80 minutes, with Cavalier scoring a goal in each half through Akeem Shelton in minute 40+2 and Alex Marshall in minute 62.
Waterhouse began briskly, but missed two glorious opportunities in the first 10 minutes of play to take the lead. This was the last opportunity they created and in which they came close to scoring.
The better organised Cavalier, with their tall and agile defenders, adjusted quickly to stifle any semblance of a chance that the Waterhouse team might have tried to hatch for the remaining 60 minutes of play.
And with two minutes added to complete the first session, Shelton, the competition’s leading goalscorer, brought his tally to nine after the Waterhouse defenders failed to clear the ball away from danger.
Cavalier, who defeated Harbour View 2-0 to get to the final, gave Waterhouse, who reached the final by edging Duhaney Park 1-0, little chance to score in the second session and in the interim scored a second goal to lift the Tastee/KSAFA Under-17 title.
