Gold Cup-chasing Boyz boycott training session
LOS ANGELES, California — Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz did not leave their hotel on Monday for a scheduled 7:00 pm (9:00 pm Jamaica time) training session at the Stubhub Centre here.
It was not immediately clear why the players did not report to the bus for the team’s first full training session ahead of their opening CONCACAF Gold Cup Group B game against Costa Rica on Wednesday.
What OBSERVER ONLINE can report is that a meeting, involving Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) president Captain Horace Burrell, General Secretary Raymond Grant, head of delegation Michael Ricketts, head coach Winfried Schaefer, and others, is under way to resolve whatever it is that has led to the boycott of the training session.
Though no one is prepared to officially comment on the issue at this time, it is understood that the players and the JFF hierarchy could be at a stand-off regarding money.
More information later.
