Jealous lover remanded in murder case
A Kingston woman who was reportedly on the run for six years after she allegedly stabbed and killed a woman in a jealous rage, was yesterday remanded in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court.
The accused, Simone Grant, of a Kingston 13 address, was arrested on May 2 and charged for the murder of 30-year-old Natalie Francis, who was killed at a memorial party in February 2009.
Allegations are that on the day in question, about 1:15 am, Francis was at a memorial party with Grant’s common-law husband when Grant approached her and an altercation developed.
During the fracas, it is alleged that Grant pulled a kitchen knife and used it to stab Francis in her upper body.
Francis was rushed to the Kingston Public Hospital where she died while undergoing surgery, while Grant fled the community.
Yesterday when Grant appeared in court before Magistrate Wolf-Reece, Grant’s attorney C J Mitchell asked for the matter to be mentioned on July 13. Francis was then remanded.
