Jamaica’s Under-17 cricketers make it three straight
SCARBOROUGH, Tobago — Jamaica made it three from three yesterday when they defeated the Leewards by 35 runs in the Regional Under-17 Tournament in Tobago.
At Louis D’Or, Jamaica made 197 off 32.4 overs with Brad Barnes making 58, supported by Dominic Samuels with 27, Ian Spence with 25, and Kashwayne Beale with 23.
Javani Tyson with 3-19, Zawandi Whyte with 3-21, Keshawn Richardson with 3-32 were the main wicket-takers.
In reply, the Leeward Islands could only muster 162 for nine off 33 overs with Joshua Grant scoring an unbeaten 59, supported by Jemuel Cabey with 26.
Shalom Parnell (3-25), Brad Barnes (2-24), Ian Spence (2-26), and Javeur Royal (2-26) created most of the damage.
At Shaw Park: Guyana won by 66 runs after making 219 for eight off 50 overs with Rolando Alimohamed, 70, Bhaskar Yadram, 69 not out, Raymond Perez, 28, and Adrian Sukhwa, 20, contributing most of the runs.
Donte Niles (2-20), and Najee Holder (2-45) were the top wicket takers.
Barbados were then restricted to 135 off 36.3 overs with Shian Brathwaite, 38, Najee Holder, 32, Donte Niles, 21, scoring the most runs, against Ashmead Nedd with 4-23, Kevin Sinclair with 2-19, and Sagar Hatheramani with 2-27.
At Canaan: Trinidad & Tobago won by seven wickets and the Windward Islands posted 172 off 44.3 overs with Emmanuel Stewart, 36, Shane Roberts, 29, and Johnel Eugene, 28 making most runs.
Justyn Gangoo (2-24), Quammie Mohammed (2-29), Nathaniel McDavid (2-30), and Kirstan Kallicharran (2-37) were the main destroyers.
Trinidad and Tobago then raced to 176 for three off 38 overs with Kirstan Kallicharran, 77 not out, Chryston Thurton, 35, Keagan Simmons, 26, and Siba Batoosingh, 24 not out, leading the winning chase.
The competition continued tomorrow with Guyana vs Leeward Islands at Canaan; Jamaica vs Windward Islands at Shaw Park, and Trinidad & Tobago vs Barbados at Louis D’Or.
Round Five takes place next Tuesday with Windward Islands vs Leeward Islands at Canaan; Trinidad & Tobago vs Guyana at Mount Pleasant, and Barbados vs Jamaica at Shaw Park.
