Upper Room Church, Arnett Gardens Rockers begin WorldNet finals
UPPER Room Church, winners of the Western Division finals, will face Eastern Division winners Arnett Gardens in game one of the best-of-five finals for the WorldNet Community Basketball Championship at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex today, starting at 7:00 pm.
Arnett Gardens Rockers easily defeated Exed Heat 2-0 to reach the final, but Upper Room Church had to show great resilience to rally from a 19-point deficit to upend Majesty Gardens in the deciding game three in the Western Division finals, at the Majesty Gardens Courts, on Saturday night.
Twice the Upper Room Church had to display the great fortitude to get the better of Majesty Gardens. Majesty Gardens played undefeated throughout the preliminary stages of the Community Basketball League divisional qualifying rounds, beaten in games two and three of the best-of-three divisional finals.
After going under in the first game at 52-63 away to Majesty Gardens, Upper Room Church returned home to win 71-55 two days later and tied the series (1-1). On Saturday night, Upper Room Church travelled to Majesty Gardens and triumphed 61-59 with Jermaine Brown sinking 21 points and Havanda Dunn adding 20.
Majesty Gardens held the upper hand for the first two quarters of the deciding third game, but thereafter seemed to run into a tartar and folded meekly in the third and fourth quarters to capitulate to defeat.
