Bass Odyssey’s ‘Barky’ buried
THE thanksgiving service for Patrick ‘Barky’ McCarty of sound system Bass Odyssey was held at the Alexandria New Testament Church of God in St Ann, last Saturday.
McCarty, 55, died from a heart attack at his home in Alexandria in St Ann, on June 8.
McCarty’s niece, Maureen Brown remembered him as a lover of music.
“He loved music. So when the big sound system (Bass Odyssey) was formed from this area, he had to be part of it,” she read in her eulogy.
McCarty was also remembered for his personality and diligence.
“He was never the one to hold grudge or malice. He would walk away. I never heard of a complain of him being in trouble. He was different in many ways and he does his duties with pride and boasts about it in his small way,” she said.
The large turnout of mourners included several members of the system fraternity.
Bass Odyssey’s CEO Keith Ralford remembered McCarty as hard-working and kind-hearted.
McCarty started working as a box man shortly after the sound system was formed in 1989. Ralford described him as dedicated, co-operative and hard-working.
Interment followed in the family plot.
McCarty is survived by his wife, four children, and four grandchildren.
