Sunshine Girls unveil new uniforms
THE Sunshine Girls will be sporting new official match uniforms when they step out on the courts to take on the rest of the world in the upcoming Netball World Cup, scheduled to run from August 7-16 in Sydney, Australia.
The unveiling of the new kits was made at a farewell luncheon held for the Sunshine Girls by Best Dressed Chicken at The Spanish Court Hotel yesterday.
The newly designed “Down Under/Tropical Glam” wardrobe (Casual Wear and Match Uniform) will be worn by the Girls to official matches and special events that will be held during the games.
Lisa McIntosh-Aries, wardrobe designer from House of Neahlis, said that Jamaica is a tropical island, so the Sunshine Girls will need tropical outfits to adequately represent the country’s colour, culture and class.
“Based on the fact that we’re a tropical island, it’s all about the tropics and being in the fabric store, there are so many arrays of fabric, colours and prints and it started to burst out of me. We’re a tropical environment and pretty much it was just really easy and so, there it was,” McIntosh-Aries told the Jamaica Observer.
“Everybody has a different concept to it, so it’s all about the skirts, floatacious, high-waist skirts that are worn with the splits and a lot of flairs and this is what is taking over Europe. Our country, we are all about style and sophistication, so what better place to take it, and the girls go off to Australia and they will be just rocking their ‘Tropical Glam Collection’,” she added.
She revealed that designing comes natural to her.
“Designing is something that I love and it is easy for me, it’s like second nature. Once I acquire the fabric, the style automatically comes to me,” she ended.
Minneth Reynolds, head coach of the Sunshine Girls, welcomed the new uniforms and wardrobe for her team.
“Oh it”s glamorous, the girls wear it well. It’s perfect for us and you know, as the Sunshine Girls, we love fashion and style and the uniform represents us well.”
