KADIE-ANN DEHANEY – Young, ambitious and talented
IF good things come to those who deserve it, then Kadie-Ann Dehaney has a lot to give thanks for.
The 18-year-old Dehaney is set to make her debut for the Sunshine Girls. And what a way to do it: at the upcoming Netball World Cup in Sydney Australia.
Dehaney is the quintessential new kid on the block. She’s tall and talented — both in netball and basketball — and she’s got nothing to lose and can only climb to the top.
Receiving a call up to the national squad was a moment that Dehaney has been waiting for her entire life.
“It has been a great feeling being among some of the best in the world, as it helps with the development of my skills and also my mental and physical toughness,” she told the Netball Centre Court.
“It was and still is a great feeling. I’m overwhelmed and very thankful. I can say hard work and dedication is really paying off,” a jubilant Dehaney said.
Dehaney, who attended St Hugh’s High School, has her eyes set on two very big prizes: winning the World Cup and a personal goal of being awarded the Most Valuable Player (MVP).
“The frame of mind that I am going into the World Cup with is definitely to win and possibly be the MVP for the tournament,” the ambitious Dehaney said.
When asked about her preparations, she said: “Preparations are going well. I just have to stay focused and continue to build on my skills and just be strong. I am in good shape and I have to ensure that I stay injury-free and healthy,” she explained.
Dehaney, who will turn 19 on September 4, has described the squad as “a highly motivated set of girls”.
“We (Girls) have built a strong bond amongst ourselves. We’re always looking out for each other and we also motivate each other a lot,” she added.
The Netball World Cup will run August 7-16, in Sydney, Australia.
