The ‘Daggerman’ finally strikes
After being in the shadows for some time, Prince ‘Daggerman’ Holder made his presence felt at Caymanas Park on Saturday when he guided 42-1 outsider Nuh Vex to a huge victory in the Grooms’
Association of Jamaica Trophy over the 1,000-metre straight course.
The $350,000- $300,000 claiming event for three-year-olds and older had Country Train as the howling 3-5 favourite. Ridden by Robert Halledeen Country Train, appeared to have the race in the bag leaving the furlong pole, but Holder urged his mount to find extra and surged through to win by a head where it mattered most.
Nuh Vex, a six-year-old bay gelding out of War Marshall -Princess Chioneso by Law of the Sea, trained by Roy Matthews and owned by V & O Racing Stables, had earlier run two disappointing races at the $250,000 level.
The win was Holder’s third for the year, and his first in just over two months. And although he has rarely been seen in the saddle lately, he is promising more surprises.
“It feels good to be back in the winner’s enclosure and there might be a lot more to come, because I am hopeful that God is on my side,” he said.
