Equipment changes make the difference
EQUIPMENT CHANGES MAKE THE DIFFERENCE
There were a number of performances that caught the eye on Saturday’s 10-race card at Caymanas Park, but that of Jafetica in the fourth event stood out among the others. The four-year-old chestnut colt released the maiden tag in commanding fashion with a comfortable nine-length win with the exclusion of the blinkers and tongue tie, after finishing down the track while running in both over a month ago. Ruddy’s Boy also came out on the winning end in the two-year-old event, after replacing the visor with the tongue tie.
FIVE CLAIMS ON SATURDAY’S PROGRAMME
Five horses will line up for different connections on upcoming race days, after being claimed on Saturday’s 10-race programme. In the sixth event, Unbreakable was claimed from trainer Winston Morris by Marlon
Anderson on an $180,000 tag for Bronx Connections, while El Patron was claimed by Maurice Crooks for himself, and Go To Hell was claimed by Deon Facey for Fitzroy Campbell.Meanwhile, Country Train was claimed by Dwight Chen for Diamonds for a
$350,000 tag, and Phillip Lee claimed Zeeva for Mr PHW, also for $350,000, both from the eighth race.
ANOTHER BULLET STRIKES
It was a display of ability and quality when Another
Bullet released the maiden tag on debut at Caymanas Park on Saturday. The three-year-old bay colt out of Nasheet-Wisely Noted though not running against tough competitors, stamped his authority in romping the third event by nine-and-a-half lengths. Ridden by Shane Ellis for trainer Everal Francis, the handsome colt has been making waves during his morning exercise, and he proved that he is no fluke as he easily covered 1,600 metres in 1:42.0 minutes.
“This is a very nice horse, and after working exceptionally well in the mornings, I knew no three-year-old maiden could beat him and from here
anything is possible,” Ellis told the Complete Racing Guide in a post-race interview.
ELLIS, WALKER TURN ON THE HEAT
The battle for the jockeys’ championship went up a notch on Saturday, with joint leaders Omar Walker and Shane Ellis winning a combined six races from the 10-race card, as they closed the day on 45 wins each. They started the day locked at 42 wins each, and ensured that they stayed in tune with each other. Ellis won aboard debutant Another Bullet in the third event,
Houdini’s Magic in the fifth, and the Richard Azan-trained Franfield in the ninth. Walker’s winners were No Money Friend in the second, Unbreakable in the sixth, and Meritone in the seventh.
FRANFIELD ON TOP OF HIS GAME
The Richard Azan-conditioned Franfield continued his rich vein of form with a comfortable win at the Open Allowance level on Saturday. Franfield in domineering fashion dictated terms with a bold front-running effort in the nine-horse field over 1,600 metres. After leaving the quarter pole, Franfield gradually opened up a gap on the field, but his mettle would soon be tested when favourite All Correct came down on the outside. The two locked horns at the furlong pole, but it turned out to be a brief tussle as Franfield responded gallantly to the left-hand urgings of Shane Ellis and pulled away to win by one-and-a-half lengths, ahead of All Correct (Robert Halledeen) and the fast-finishing
Phineas (Aaron Chatrie) in a swift time of 1:38.3 minutes.
