Man desperate to fly grounded by forged document
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A man who confessed to using a forged passport in an attempt to travel overseas was sentenced to nine months imprisonment and told to embrace his name during his time behind bars.
Kevin Daley was sentenced in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court after pleading guilty to charges of possession of a forged document and uttering a forged document.
“You don’t like that name?” Magistrate Simone Wolfe-Reece asked.
“Yes,” Daley replied.
“So why you want to change it? What about that name you don’t like? Tell mi why. Explain it to mi,” she said.
“Mi kinda want to fly,” he replied.
“There are lots of things we are going to want to do in this life. But guess what, we can’t have them unless we grow wings and fly,” she said. “Persons like you make it difficult for persons of the same nationality who want to fly.”
She added: “Practice Kevin Keith Daley, love it and accept it, it is who you are.”
