VIP cop on gun rap offered bail
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Tyrone Headley, the VIP Protection Division cop on gun rap charges, has been offered bail in the High Court Division of the Gun Court.
Headley was offered a $600,000 bail following an application by attorney Peter Champagnie.
The constable, who was the body guard of St Mary Member of Parliament Jolyan Silvera at the time of his arrest earlier this month, has been charged with illegal possession of a firearm.
He was charged after the Hunts Bay police intercepted a vehicle with five men aboard and seized an illegal gun. The other men were reportedly released.
During Tuesday’s bail application, Champagnie told the court that his client has denied ownership of the weapon. The attorney said his client had intended to tell the police who in the car the gun belonged to but didn’t want to reveal his own identity on the spot.
He’s to return to court on September 18.
