GG says Jamaicans should draw motivation from athletes
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Governor General Sir Patrick Allen says Jamaicans can show their appreciation for our athletes by taking the message of resilience and unity which their performance at the recently concluded IAAF World Athletics Championships symbolises.
Allen said the camaraderie which fuelled communities across Jamaica is a clear signal that not only is sports unifying, but that Jamaicans have the capacity to unite around a national cause. He said this euphoria must prevail in all situations as Jamaicans unite to realise our development goals.
He had high praises for Usain Bolt as well as other athletes who he said performed exceptionally well, even as they were recuperating from injuries. He said Novelene Williams-Mills’ triumph over cancer and her victory as part of the winning team in the women’s 4x400m finals is worthy of special mention.
The governor general said that the success of our athletes is “a true reflection of the philosophy behind the black, gold and green of our flag”.
