KINGSTON, Jamaica — Two anti-corruption policemen implicated in soliciting money from a person involved in a corruption probe were today offered bail when they appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court.Related story: Anti-corruption cop caught soliciting money
They are Constable Remore Thomas and Corporal Omar Lobban of the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA).
Thomas was arrested on Monday while reportedly in the process of requesting money from the person being questioned on a peripheral enquiry related to an investigation.
MOCA said in a release today that continued investigations led to Lobban being arrested and charged.
The policemen were offered bail in the sum of $800,000 each, with one to three sureties and stop orders placed on their travel documents, MOCA added.
They are scheduled to re-appear in court on October 12.
MOCA said that it views the unprecedented acts by these officers as a serious breach of its high integrity and professional standards.
“The prompt and decisive action by our staff in investigating and putting this matter before the court is a demonstration of MOCA’s resolve and commitment in stamping out corruption,” the release said.
