Diamond Mile conditions released
The conditions for the inaugural running of the much anticipated Diamond Mile were made public yesterday. The 1,600-metre event will carry a record purse of $13.5-million (US$115,000) to be run at Caymanas Park on December 5, 2015.
Instead of paying purses to the first six positions as currently obtains, the Grade One Diamond Mile will see purses being paid to the first 10 finishers: $6,524,000 (first place), $2,123,000 (second place), $1,256,000 (third place), $754,000 (fourth place), $628,000 (fifth place), $513,000 (sixth place), $209,000 (seventh place), $189,000 (eighth place), $179,000 (ninth place), and $169,000 (10th place).
The commemorative trophy of the Diamond Mile which is valued at $500,000 will be won outright by the winning owner. Winning breeder, trainer, jockey, and groom will also receive trophies as well. The Diamond Mile carries a nomination fee of $80,000.
Three-year-olds and upward imported horses will carry top weight of 57.0 kgs, while native-bred four-year-olds and upward will be allowed 2.0 kgs for a weight of 55.0 kgs. Native-bred three-year-olds will carry 53.0 kgs, while fillies and mares will be allowed 2.0 kgs. A 2.0-kg impost will be applied to imported horses that are no domiciled in Jamaica, Barbados and T&T for less than four months prior to December 5.
No apprentice claims will be allowed.
The maximum field will be 16 with 10 positions reserved for horses living in Jamaica for more than two months prior to December 5. Horses will be selected based on the highest lifetime earning in Jamaica.
