Movements begins this weekend
KINGSTON, Jamaica —The 34th anniversary season of Movements Dance Company of Jamaica takes to the stage at the Little Theatre in St Andrew, on Saturday and Sunday.
This season will be under the theme: “On Eagle’s Wings”.
The highlight of the season will be the unveiling of three new works — On Eagle’s Wings, sponsored by MegaMart, and Searchlight, sponsored by Jamaica National. Both works are choreographed by Campbell McFarlane. The third new piece is Ubunto, sponsored by Digicel, and is choreographed by Ashe Performing Arts Company’s artistic director, Michael Holgate. He has produced a number of works for the company over the years.
Artistic director Monica Campbell-McFarlane has promised an entertaining performance. “Anybody who loves dance, will love this show. It showcases thought-provoking choreography, fine performances, beautiful music and great entertainment,” she said.
This season will also feature the return of much acclaimed international choreographer Christopher Huggins, who has become a major contributor to the repertoire of Movements. Two of his works will be performed — Mothers of War and the pulsating Wrath of God, which has become a signature piece of the Company.
