UPDATE: Professor Nigel Harris appointed Chancellor of University of Guyana
GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC) – The former vice chancellor of the University of the West Indies, Professor Nigel E Harris, has been appointed as the ninth Chancellor of the University of Guyana.
The University of Guyana said Harris, a rheumatologist, took up his appointment on August 26 and replaces the former president of the Barbados-based Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), and Dr Compton Bourne, who served from 2009 to 2012.
“I welcome this opportunity to work with the leaders, staff and students of the University of Guyana community, as well as with Government and other stakeholders to forge the growth and success of this institution so critical to the economic, social and cultural development of Guyana and the Caribbean,” said Harris, who has held many leadership positions, including president of the Association of Caribbean Universities and Research Institutes.
He also served as Chairman of the Association of Commonwealth Universities.
