SPOTTED! – Donna Karan

What: Donna Karan’s 39-Million Compound “The Sanctuary” Up For Sale!

Where: www.christiesrealestate.com www.christiesrealestate.com … the elite real estate site

Who would have thunk it?

Perfect timing — mere weeks before the stylish set descended upon the Big Apple and three months since stepping down as chief designer of Donna Karan International, one of the most important designers in the history of American fashion — this, according to the gospel of WWD — has put her Caribbean sweet escape, known as The Sanctuary, on the auction block. The property, located in Turks and Caicos, sits on 10 acres. Karan has put up seven of the 10 acres, inclusive of two four-bedroom villas, an infinity pool, chef’s kitchen and yoga studio up for sale.

In fashion speak it’s called shedding — as in layers for the warmer climes. The 66-year-old designer, who lost her second husband, Steven Weiss in 2001, has three children, daughter Gabby Karan De Felice, 41, and stepchildren Corey Weiss, 50 and Lisa Weiss, 48, and simply doesn’t need all that space.

Who would need all this space –Angelina Jolie immediately comes to mind, as do Jay-Z and Beyonce and let’s not rule out Kim and Kanye.

Until then — here’s a look inside the — price available upon request — (our sources have whispered US$39 million) — Caribbean getaway which is located on one of the most exclusive and secluded islands within Turks and Caicos, Parrot Cay.

Flanked by lush vegetation, the estate directly fronts powder-soft white sands and turquoise waters, offering panoramic views of the island’s pristine surroundings. Two four-bedroom villas are the centrepieces of the compound, each featuring a second-floor master bedroom with stunning ocean views, three bedroom suites, and an infinity-edge pool. Designed by Cheong Yew Kuan, the villas’ crafted interiors are complemented by cedar and coral walls, teak furniture, and eclectic works of art from around the globe. A screened-in guest pavilion sits adjacent to the wooded terraces, while a chef’s kitchen and yoga studio are further highlights.
