Manning Cup Gameday 1
The Manning Cup season kicks off today, with Jamaica College facing Calabar at 2:30pm at the Mobay Sports Complex. Last season, Miguel Coley’s Hope Road team began their season with a 5-0 clobbering of Jonathan Grant. Calabar also began their season with a thumping 5-0 win over Penwood. JC will be missing Sheldon McKoy, while Calabar lost defenders Yashin Bonfield and Juhwani Hinds to Wolmer’s over the summer.
The two traditional high schools will be battling for points in a tough group, but also the pride and bragging rights that come with these clashes.
The purple men of Kingston College kick off against tough competitors Camperdown at Clovelly Park at 3:30pm. Both teams started with easier competition last year, with KC barely getting out of first gear to overcome Campion College 2-0. Camperdown beat Dunoon 3-1. Both teams will be looking for a repeat of first day points.
In the third coverage game, St. Jago High face the Vassel Reynolds coached Wolmer’s Boys, after Ludlow Bernard resigned. The maroon and gold team have imported the earlier mentioned defenders as well as Prince McGrilvy from Camperdown over the summer. They will be hoping to replace Jaheel Hyde’s creativity and recreate their 3-0 opening win over Clan Carthy in 2014. St Jago opened with a 1-0 loss to Hydel. Will we see a repeat of the teams’ fortunes?
