Queen makes Reggae Boyz’s cut
NEWLY crowned Miss Jamaica World 2015 Dr Sanneta Myrie has been named an honorary Reggae Boyz teammate.
The 24-year-old Myrie was awarded the number 15 jersey with her name on the back during half-time at the Nicaragua versus Jamaica World Cup qualifier match held at the National Stadium in St Andrew, on September 4. This number will never be assigned to another player.
Miss Jamaica World Franchise holder Laura Butler said the beauty queen wore the jersey proudly at the second leg in Nicaragua earlier this week.
“They decided to present her with her own jersey, number 15 which means no other member of the team will wear number 15. It is a wonderful gesture,” she said.
The dreadlocked Myrie emerged winner of the Miss Jamaica World title at the Montego Bay Convention Centre in St James, in August.
The beauty queen, who won the Miss UWI contest in 2012, also mentors youth in Kingston’s inner-city communities and runs an after-school progamme.
She is expected to represent Jamaica at the Miss World pageant in China in December.
The Miss World pageant is the oldest surviving major international beauty pageant. It was created in the United Kingdom by Eric Morley in 1951.
The current Miss World is Rolene Strauss of South Africa.
