Creary, co-accused to seek bail again
RAPE accused Don Creary and co-accused Shaneke Williams are to know today if they will be offered bail when they appear in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court.
Both were forced to spend the weekend in jail after being remanded into custody when they appeared in court last Friday.
Resident Magistrate Simone Wolfe-Reece will decide the matter of their temporary freedom.
Businessman and political activist Creary, 48, is the former councillor for the Castleton Division in the St Mary Parish Council. He ran, unsuccessfully, against Harry Douglas of the People’s National Party and Lorane Ferguson of the National Democratic Movement, to serve as member of parliament for St Mary South Eastern in 1997.
He, along with co-accused Williams, 23, a publicist, were charged last Wednesday in relation to the reported sexual assault of a 15-year-old schoolgirl.
Creary was charged with rape, while Williams was charged with aiding and abetting rape and sexual touching. They were arrested by investigators from the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse.
Attorney-at-law Tom Tavares-Finson appears for Creary, and Nadine Atkinson-Flowers represents Williams.
Reports have stated that the two allegedly took the girl to a dwelling, where she was given alcohol and forced to have sex with Creary. However, the location of the alleged act is still unclear, as police investigators have given conflicting locations — that it happened in St Mary, as well as in Havendale, St Andrew. The date given was November 2013.
Investigators said that the complainant filed a report of the incident in March 2014, and another on September 3 of this year.
