Man beats woman for cheating
A man who claimed that his woman was cheating on him, and allegedly attacked and beat the woman and pulled her from a car as she tried to escape, was remanded for sentence on September 14.
Richard Peart, whose bail was revoked on Monday after he pleaded guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm, was further remanded when he appeared in court on Wednesday, after his sentencing was delayed.
The court on Monday heard that the complainant, who has been involved in an abusive relationship with Peart for the past three and half years, went to his house on June 20, when she was set upon by Peart and beaten.
Peart, the court heard, slapped the complainant in her face and tore off her underwear exposing her breast. Peart also used a piece of wood to the hit the complainant on her belly and thigh.
The court heard that the complainant managed to escape, ran onto the roadway and got into a taxi, but Peart followed her and ran in front of the car armed with two big stones, causing the car to slow down.
The court also heard that Peart then jumped inside the car and pulled out the complainant and started to punch her.
Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey on hearing the facts in the case then asked Peart why he attacked the woman.
“She have somebody else and things just get out of proportion,” Peart told the magistrate.
But the magistrate told him: “I have to get calm, I can’t sentence you like you sentence her.”
Peart’s bail was then revoked and he was taken into custody, but on Wednesday his matter was further postponed.
