STGC hunt win number 3
FAVOURITES St George’s College (STGC) will be hunting their third consecutive win when they host Ardenne High at Winchester Park in one of nine ISSA/Flow Manning Cup games today.
In the other Group C games today, Eltham High host Innswood, while Kingston Technical High travel to the Edward Seaga Sports Complex to play Denham Town.
The Neville Bell-coached STGC kicked off their campaign with a thumping 9-0 win over Kingston Technical and followed that up with a decent 2-0 away victory over Denham Town to be top of the group with maximum six points.
Ardenne, after crashing 0-2 to Innswood in their opening encounter, rebounded with a 1-0 home win over Eltham High, but will find it extremely difficult against a well-rounded St George’s aggregation playing at home.
The ‘Light Blues’ have rattled in 11 goals in two games and are heavily fancied to secure win number three on the trot.
With the acquisition of National Under-17 midfielder Hakim Williams from Calabar, Jerome Coombs from Kingston College (KC), Paul Young Jnr from Wolmer’s Boys, plus former JC-winning Under-14 skipper Dominic James to complement the likes of National Under-17 player Alex Marshall, Gregory Messam Jnr, the lethal Shevon Stoddart, and Stephan Gilzene, St George’s College will be hard to deny, especially playing at home.
It should be an interesting battle between Innswood High, on six points, and the pointless Eltham High in the St Catherine derby.
Meanwhile, former champions Excelsior High will be aiming to rebound from their 0-2 defeat to Vauxhall when they host Norman Manley in Group F action. Both teams are on three points from two games.
Group leader Jonathan Grant, with maximum six points, play a Spanish Town team without a point and are fancied to make it three-in-a-row following victories over Norman Manley and Ascot High.
Vauxhall High, also on six points, will be boosted by their 2-0 win over Excelsior and should get the better of an Ascot team that lost 0-4 to Excelsior and 1-3 to Jonathan Grant.
In Group B, in the top-of-the-table clash, Hydel High and Dunoon Technical, both on four points, battle each other for sole leadership, while Cumberland High and Greater Portmore battle in the Portmore derby.
Haile Selassie, on three points and fresh from their 4-0 demolition of Cumberland, take on Papine High who were awarded the points against Cumberland to be on four points.
