Manchester continue dominance of Mile Gully

MILE GULLY, Manchester — Manchester High maintained their dominance over Mile Gully High in the ISSA/Flow daCosta Cup football competition after beating them 4-0 in their Zone F first-round game at Mile Gully Community Centre yesterday.

Romaine Williams scored a hat-trick and Duhaney Williams got the other as Manchester High won their third straight game this season and extended their unbeaten run on the field against them to eight games, although they lost the points to last season’s first-round encounter.

It was the first loss for Mile Gully, who had won their previous two games, but they remained in second place on six points.

Meanwhile, three other schools, Islington High, Dinthill Technical and Vere Technical all won their third straight games as well, while defending champions Clarendon College dropped their first points of the season after they were held 1-1 by Lennon High.

Islington beat St Mary Technical in Zone J; Dinthill Technical were 2-1 winners over Bog Walk, as Rodave Murray and Romaine Brown scored for the winners, while Vere Technical won their first three games for the first time in over six years beating Old Harbour High 3-1.

Last season’s beaten finalists St Elizabeth Technical High School finally won, beating arch rivals Munro College 1-0 at Alpart with Travar McCollough scoring from the penalty spot after Dwayne Forester had missed earlier.

Cornwall College came from behind to earn a hard-fought 1-1 draw against St James High in a Zone A game at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.

Taveak McNeil gave St James High the lead in the 42nd minute, ending a slick move with a shot past goalkeeper Jamario Hines.

Jourdaine Fletcher, however, drew Cornwall College level in the 74th minute with his fourth of the season when he dribbled through the defence and scored past goalkeeper Oian Miller.

Ten-time winners Rusea’s High scored a second successive 1-0 win, edging Frome Technical in Lucea to snap the Westmoreland school’s two-game winning run in Zone B.

Spot Valley came from 0-2 down to beat Herbert Morrison High in Zone C, while Muschett High edged William Knibb 1-0.

Petersfield were 5-1 winners over Manning’s School with a double from Romaine Wright, as Godfrey Stewart won for the second time, beating Little London 3-0.
