Blocked sidewalk hindering disabled people in Mona
ST ANDREW, Jamaica – Several wheelchair bound residents, who do business or live in/around Mona, have been inconvenienced by a fallen tree currently blocking a sidewalk that scores of person have to access daily.
The section of the sidewalk that has been damaged is in the vicinity of the Sir John Golding Rehabilitation Centre.
“The fallen tree has also damaged a high tension electric wire in the area,” one resident told OBSERVER ONLINE.
“Because the side walk is blocked several members of the disabled community who have to travel around in wheel chairs are forced to travel in the road, placing themselves at risk,” said another.
Expressing similar concerns, a representative from the Sir Golden Rehabilitation Centre has called for authorities to carry out a cleanup project in the area.
”Members from the disabled community continue to suffer because sidewalks in the area need to be cleared,” said the official.
The representative noted that the section of the sidewalk that runs from the University Hospital into Papine, needs to be rid of over grown vegetation and debris.
