ISSA Urban High School Junior, Senior Netball Leagues begin today
THE 2015 Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) Urban High Schools Junior and Senior Netball Leagues are scheduled to begin today starting at 2:30 pm.
All matches in the preliminary rounds are to be played at the team’s school grounds with the Junior League to start at 2:30 pm and the Senior League at approximately 3:30 pm.
Junior League matches will be played for 40 minutes with four quarters of 10 minutes each with a half-time period of four minutes, while the Senior League will be played for 48 minutes with four quarters of 12 minutes each, and a half-time interval of five minutes.
Forty urban schools will be participating in the Junior and Senior Leagues with The Queen’s School defending titles in both sections. The seniors are defending All-Island champions.
Meanwhile, Camperdown High captured the Junior title in extra time 7-5 over Holy Childhood after the teams were locked at 3-3 at full time, while St Catherine High edged Titchfield 3-2 to win the Senior title in the Urban Opening Rally played last Thursday at the Leila Robinson Courts.
The opening matches scheduled for this afternoon are as follows: ZONE ‘A’ – Holy Trinity High vs Excelsior High; Jonathan Grant High vs Waterford High. ZONE ‘C’ – Edith Dalton-James vs Alpha Academy; Hydel High vs Papine High; Denham Town High vs St Hugh’s High.
ZONE ‘D’ – St Jago High vs Haile Selassie High; Camperdown High vs Clan Carthy High; Norman Manley High vs Mona High. Home teams are named first.
Schools and their respective zones are as follows:
ZONE ‘A’ – Excelsior High, Holy Childhood High, Holy Trinity High, Jonathan Grant High, Jose Marti Technical, Waterford High.
ZONE ‘B’ – Ardenne High, Campion College, Eltham High, Oberlin High, Spanish Town High, St Catherine High.
ZONE ‘C’ — Alpha Academy, Denham Town High, Edith Dalton-James High, Hydel High, Papine High, St Andrew Technical High (STATHS), St Hugh’s High.
ZONE ‘D’ – Camperdown High, Clan Carthy High, Haile Selassie High, Mona High, Norman Manley High, St Jago High.
ZONE ‘E’ – Cedar Grove High (upgraded from Junior High), Charlie Smith High, Meadowbrook High, Merl Grove High, St Andrew High, St Mary’s College, Tarrant High.
ZONE ‘F’ – Ascot High, Gaynstead High, Immaculate High, Penwood High, Tivoli High, Wolmer’s Girls and The Queens School
The top two teams from both the Junior and Senior Leagues will qualify for the second round divided into two groups of six teams each. The top two from each will qualify for the knockout semi-finals.
All these matches along with the finals are scheduled to be played at the Leila Robinson Courts at the Independence Park Sports Complex (National Stadium Complex).
