Reach out to uncommitted, Holness tells supporters
OPPOSITION Leader Andrew Holness last weekend challenged members and supporters of his Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) to “work feverishly” to attract uncommitted voters to the party.
Speaking at a divisional conference in the Southern Manchester community of Grove Town, Holness urged Labourites to reach out to uncommitted voters because they have the power to impact the political landscape in a significant way.
“The Jamaica Labour Party must make itself the home that receives the support of the uncommitted voter and the Jamaica Labour Party must shape itself into the political organisation that best represents the views, dreams and aspirations of Jamaicans who are frustrated with the political process. And what I have been doing quietly, studiously and diligently is to create a set of young people in the party who represent that vision,” said Holness.
At the same time, the Opposition leader urged persons who do not participate in the electoral process to get off the fence and make their voices heard because a ‘no’ vote is, in effect, a vote for things to remain as they are.
“I say to those who participate all the time, reach out. Reach out to those who are frustrated. Hold their hand, talk to them and bring them to the JLP. Make those who didn’t vote get up on election day and decide to change the way things operate in this country,” Holness said.
