Port Antonio put perfect win record on the line

BUFF BAY, Portland — Port Antonio High will put their 100 per cent win record on the line today when they take on Buff Bay High in an ISSA/Flow daCosta Cup Zone L return-leg game at Lynch Park, Buff Bay — one of 12 games down for competition.

Port Antonio High have won their four previous games by an 8-0 aggregate, five of those goals coming against Buff Bay in their first-round meeting.

They are one of four teams with perfect records left in the competition, joining Rusea’s High, Manchester High, and Paul Bogle High schools.

Meanwhile, the battle royale in Zone G will continue today with five of the six schools all still in with hopes of taking the two inter-zone spots on offer.

Three points separate the five schools and leaders Spalding High, on nine points, will play away to Christiana, one of three schools tied on seven points.

Spalding had won their first-round game 1-0.

Second-placed Holmwood Technical will hope to repeat their 3-1 first-round victory over Alston High, both teams locked on seven points and separated by goal difference, while Knox, on six points and in fifth place, will take on last-placed Bellefield High with the hope that a win would help push them up the table.

In Zone A, Cornwall College will hope that facing last-placed and winless Irwin High can help them reclaim the top spot. Cornwall College had opened the season with an 8-1 trouncing of Irwin High, but have since drawn their next two games to be second behind St James High.

Defending champions Clarendon College should remain on top of Zone H after meeting Kellits High, who they beat 6-0 in the first round, while Lennon High will hope to skip over Edwin Allen into second place with a win over Thompson Town.

Clarendon College lead with 10 points from four games, one more than Edwin Allen who are not playing today, while Lennon High are on seven points.

Yesterday, York Castle failed to win their game after being held 0-0 by Steer Town in their Zone I game and are on 11 points, one point behind leaders Marcus Garvey Technical.

Manning’s School edged Maud McLeod 1-0 and moved to third in Zone D on six points, one behind second-placed Godfrey Stewart, while in Zone O St Thomas Technical beat Morant Bay High.
