UPDATE: NWC workers continue islandwide protest
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Scores of workers employed to National Water Commission (NWC) are this morning staging a series of protests at the company’s offices.
“This protest has to do with health insurance and a number of other grouses,” said Lilly-May Silvera, Bustamante Industrial Trade Union (BITU) delegate at the NWC.
“Every three years we have a contract with a carrier, the carrier is selected after dialogue with employee representatives,” the BITU representative said.
Silvera explained that this year, that procedure was not followed.
The union delegate said that close to 2,000 workers across the island are protesting.
More details later.
