Alex’s Imports Limited returns for Gold Cup sponsorship
Alex’s Imports Limited has renewed its sponsorship of the Gold Cup which after 44 years is still regarded as the ultimate handicap race at Caymanas Park. The seven-furlong event is set to be contested on October 17 over the Heroes’ Day weekend.
The Alex’s Imports Limited Gold Cup carries a purse of $1.6m inclusive of $400,000 from the sponsoring company.
Herald Barrett, operations manager at Alex’s Imports Limited, said that sponsoring the Gold Cup for the second consecutive year was never a problem.
“We considered last year’s race day to be a success and were happy when asked by CTL to continue our association with this event. We are honoured to once again be a part of this prestigious race day and we are happy that as the title sponsor, this year’s edition will carry the company’s brand as the Alex’s Imports Gold Cup,” Barrett said.
Cedric Stewart, chief executive officer (CEO) at CTL, welcomed the sponsorship from Alex’s Imported Limited.
“Over the years, these Gold Cup events have provided tremendous excitement due to the fierce battle and the nail-biting finishes that characterise these races. We at Caymanas Park are particularly pleased that Alex’s Imports Limited has agreed to once again be a part of the most anticipated handicap race on the annual calendar,” the CEO said.
Some of the horses expected to take part in this year’s renewal of the Gold Cup are the Harry Parsard duo of Potcheen and Uppa Tune, Perfect Neighbour and some of the top three-year-olds returning after their participation in the Classic races.
