Start-up Amber Connect to launch car-monitoring system
INDIA-BORN Dushyant Savadia will be introducing Jamaica to a new application that allows for safer and smarter driving experiences on the road come November.
The technology, dubbed Amber Car, is one of five monitoring systems that Jamaican start-up company Amber Connect will be launching.
Amber Car connects a driver to the car through a smartphone app or web portal, Savadia said. Vehicle movements can be located and tracked in real time via a Global Positioning System (GPS) tracker, remote diagnosis system and a multi-purpose fully featured tracker. Each will sell for under $17,000.
Security companies including KingAlarm and Hawkeye Security already have GPS monitoring technology. But Amber Connect offers a new technological twist by combining GPS with Location Based Service (LBS) to keep car owners constantly aware of motor vehicles, assets and family via the smartphone application.
“At the touch of a button, this application will allow the average individual and fleet managers to get real-time feedback on driving habits like harsh braking, sudden accelerations, and speeding,” Savadia said.
“Once a driver goes over the required speed limit, depending on the service you have, an instant notification will be sent to the driver and the managers on how fast you are going and the app will also track the roads travelled and tell the exact time the driver went over the speed limit.”
Users can view trip history, receive weekly emails of their driving statistics and scan receipts to be automatically updated in an expense report.
Savadia told the Jamaica Observer he is discussing with key partners, including insurance, roadside assistance, armed security and telecommunication companies, how the product will be marketed and distributed next month.
“The idea is to help the whole insurance industry and to help them protect the assets that they are insuring and to give more visibility to the location of cars, which will minimise their annual losses, thus reducing the cost of car insurance,” he said.
The entrepreneur told the Caribbean Business Report that after spending three years in Jamaica, he saw a great need for the service and developed a business plan around the Amber Car technology, Amber Team GPS personal tracker, and the Amber kids wearable watch, identification card and tracker.
