New selection system in Flow Cup draw today
ORGANISERS of the 2015 Flow Super Cup yesterday announced the introduction of a new draw-selection process for teams participating in this year’s competition.
A seeding process, aided by information garnered by BrawtaSports.net — the organisation which collects and stores data for the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) — will be used to determine the starting match-ups for the highly anticipated competition scheduled for Saturday.
The teams will be seeded based on number of variables, including: placement in overall ISSA football competitions last season; performance in preliminary and secondary rounds in current seasons and retention of players, new players and coaching staff.
This means that the seeded teams from the Manning and DaCosta Cups will be placed in separate pools (M1 and D1); Unseeded teams treated in a similar fashion (M2 and D2). Therefore, M1 teams will be drawn against D2, while D1 will be drawn against M2 teams.
Last year, only one of the eight DaCosta Cup teams, St Elizebeth Technical High School (STETHS), made it beyond the quarter-final round. They were later eliminated in the semi-finals.
The qualifying teams from the DaCosta Cup competition are St James High, Petersfield High, (STETHS), Clarendon College, Lacovia High, Port Antonio High, Vere Technical and Glenmuir High.
Battling also for the million-dollar-cash prize are the Manning Cup Zone winners Jamaica College, Hydel High School, St George’s College, Charlie Smith High School, Wolmer’s Boys’ School, Excelsior High School, Kingston College, as well as St Jago High School (best second place based on win percentage).
The first round of matches will be spread over three venues — the National Stadium and Sabina Park in Kingston, and the Catherine Hall Sports Complex in Montego Bay.
