National invitee Alwayne Williams smashed a blistering 165 to pace defending champions Boscobel to a crushing 100-run victory over Trinity Land in the second round of the LP Martin Funeral Home/Gas Pro St Mary 35 Overs Cricket competition at Boscobel last Sunday.

Williams, rated by many as the top batsman in the parish, and who was the leading run-getter in the recent T20 tournament, celebrated his call-up to the Jamaica Scorpion trials by smashing the bowling to all parts of the ground in a pulsating knock.

Thanks to Williams’ fine century, Boscobel rattled up 315 for three before restricting Trinity Land to 215 for five off their 35 overs, thus bouncing back from last week’s defeat in the opening round.

Over at Wilderness, the home team defeated Galina by 96 runs in a low-scoring affair. Batting first, wilderness were bowled out for 176 in 26.2 overs, with Michael Belnavis 46, and Sejou Dixon 31, being the main run-getters against R Ross 5-31 off seven overs and R McDonald 3-26, also off seven overs.

In their turn at the crease, Galina were bundled out for 80 off 12.3 overs, with N Kelly top-scoring with 35. Shevland Stephenson 4-43 was the pick of the Wilderness bowlers.

At Jack’s River, the highly-touted home team were beaten by Sandals/Beaches Ocho Rios in one of the day’s big upsets. Taking first strike, Jack’s River failed to cope with the hostile bowling from the hotel men and were routed for 134.

Tyrone Daley, 17, Sherington Brown, 17, and Tashane Gallimore, 16, were the only batsmen to offer any resistance to Jessi Alexander’s 5-23 and Marlon Thompson’s 2-26.

When the hotel men batted, Michael Downer, 28, Samuel McIntosh, 24 not out, Richardo Thompson, 22, and Delroy Patterson, 21, shone with the bat as they reached 135 for six wickets. Darrion Walker 3-29 was the pick of the Jack’s River bowlers.
