Opposition says St Hilda’s did the right thing
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Opposition deputy spokesperson on education and youth Robert Nesta Morgan has said he is happy St Hilda’s High School did the right thing in reinstating their head girl, Jade Bascoe.
Morgan noted that: “We have always maintained that a mistake was made and felt a reinstatement was the appropriate remedy.”
In commending the school board for accepting the advice of the Public Defender, he said, “I know St Hilda’s will continue to make a positive contribution to the education system. I also know that many of us have learnt important lessons from this incident.”
The school board reinstated Jade following a meeting on Thursday, which was attended by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education Elaine Foster-Allen and Regional Director Maxine Headlam.
The ministry, which immediately welcomed the decision, said it was satisfied that the issues concerning all parties were adequately ventilated.
