The Mico accredited for 19 courses
THE Mico University College announced this week that the University Council of Jamaica (UCJ) has accredited all of its specialisations in the Bachelor of Education (Secondary) programme, effective October 12.
The areas are: business studies, computer science, family and consumer science, geography and environmental studies, history and culture, industrial technology, language and literacy, language and literature, library and information studies, mathematics, music, physical education, science, social studies, and visual arts.
The UCJ has also approved Mico’s BSc in Guidance and Counselling, BEd in School Management and Leadership, and Master of Arts in Teaching.
“We are pleased that we met the requirements of the UCJ as we continue to improve the quality of education that we offer to our promising teachers in training,” Mico President Dr Asburn Pinnock said in a release to the media.
Mico was empowered by an Act of Parliament in 2006, through a Scheme of Arrangement to confer degrees as a university college, according to the Education Act. It has satisfied the standards as a university college and has been fully registered as such since then.
In addition to the bachelor of education degrees, Mico offers programmes in early education, primary education, special education, and science and technology.
