First-timers
No Pain No Gain, Doolahin and Stir It Up finally released their maiden tags at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
Trained by Delroy Spencer and ridden by Jevvanne Erwin, No Pain No Gain, who was sent off as a 5-2 betting chance, came with a strong run in the last furlong to beat Twilight Rocket (Shane Ellis) by a length and a quarter in 1:45:3 minutes over 1,600 metres.
“She (No Pain No Gain) worked brilliantly the other day and coming into a cheap race like this, I knew she would get the job done here,” Erwin said.
With Robert Halledeen riding for trainer Steven Todd, Doolahin made all convincingly to win by three-and-three-quarter lengths ahead of Meet Justin (Shamaree Muir) in 1:02:3 minutes for 1,000 metres round.
“This horse is so consistent, running three seconds and twothirds in her last five outings, so it would be very disappointing if she lost the race,” Halledeen said.
Stir It Up, under apprentice Linton Steadman, drew away from rivals turning for home to win by eight lengths over Sir Biggs (Douglas Badaloo) in 1:41:0 minutes over 1,600 metres.
“Leaving the half-mile, I knew that I had the race in the bag as my horse was travelling better than the rest of the field.
When I asked him to go turning for home, he just blew away from the field to win easily,” Steadman told the Complete Racing Guide.
