Face to Face with Fab 5 band
VETERAN band Fabulous 5 gave patrons an evening to remember at Rafter’s Rest in St Margaret’s Bay, Portland on Sunday.
Their nearly four-hour set spanned reggae, soca, gospel, and American R&B.
R&B faves included Chilites’s Lonely Girl, Ben E King’s Stand By Me and My Girl, and Otis Redding’s I’ve Been Loving You Too Long.
Fab 5’s long stint was closed by an introduction to their recently released 16-track album Face to Face.
Grub Cooper, founding member and musical director of the more than four decades band, said the set was it was something he was yearning to do.
“There are some artistes who are too good to ignore and I have always wanted to work together in the studio with many of these stars. Starting in 2014, I worked to make this dream a reality as I got some of Jamaica’s greatest hit-makers, singers, deejays and performers to join Fab 5 in the studio in the making of this album,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
“Face to Face has combinations, singles, covers and originals, of which I am very proud. The artistes have been gracious in their time, energy and creative talents, ensuring that this product will not sit on the shelves but provide great entertainment and listening pleasure for thousands of our combined fans for years to come,” he continued.
The album has collaborations with artistes including Marcia Griffiths, Tarrus Riley, Beres Hammond, Richie Stephens, Pam Hall, Queen Ifrica, Gem Myers, Roy Rayon and Lovindeeer.
Part proceeds of the event will go towards exposing new talent from the parish.
