CCU retracts report that friend of slain student was shot and injured
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The police’s communication arm, the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), has retracted its report that the friend of slain medical student, Shanique Walters, was shot and injured during last night’s robbery.
CCU had earlier reported that both women were shot.
However, in an adjusted release a short while ago, CCU said Walters and a friend were walking home when they were approached by men in a vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle reportedly brandished a firearm and demanded money. When the demands were not met, he opened fire, hitting Walters. She died while undergoing treatment at hospital.
Investigations continue.
