THE Institute of Chartered Accountants of Jamaica (ICAJ) on Friday announced congratulations for ICAJ/ACCA students Stephanie Dempster, Alexandra Stennett and Shamala Miller, who attained the highest marks in the Caribbean in their respective papers in the June 2015 sitting of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) examinations.

Stephanie Dempster

Stephanie attained the highest mark in F9 — Financial Management. She started the ACCA programme in 2014 upon graduating from the University of Technology, Jamaica where she majored in accounting. She was awarded a leadership award for her presidency of the Accounting Students’ Association as well as a Cherrie Corrie Award from the School of Business Administration for Outstanding Performance in Accounting.

Alexandra Stennett

Alexandra received the highest mark in P3 — Business Analysis. She began her ACCA journey in December 2012. Since then, she has received several awards for her performance in ACCA examinations, including the highest average in Jamaica for Level I, top performer in Jamaica for two papers in Level II and top performer in the Caribbean for one paper in Level II and two papers in Level III. A past student of Immaculate Conception High School, Alexandra was awarded a scholarship to pursue a first degree at the University of the West Indies (UWI), where she obtained a BSc in biotechnology and botany and an MPhil in molecular biology. It was during her time as a Master’s student that she learned about ACCA and eventually made the switch to a career in accounting, joining the Audit department at KPMG where she is currently a tax associate.

Shamala Miller

Shamala attained the highest mark in P4 — Advanced Financial Management. She started the ACCA programme in 2012 after graduating with a Bachelor’s degree (Hons) in Accounting and Finance from the University of Technology, Jamaica. After university, Shamala joined Deloitte and Touche where she started to pursue the ACCA qualification. She began working at PwC Jamaica in September 2013, where she is developing her career in auditing/accounting. She was recently recognised at PwC Jamaica for excellent team work and exceptional performance of regular duties, and as a result.
