A ‘Stunner’
Stunner finally entered the winners’ enclosure on her fifth attempt to win the Abbie Grannum Memorial Cup at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
Ridden by Paul Francis and trained by Fitzroy Glispie, Stunner ran out a comfortable three-length winner going over 1,400 metres in the maiden special weight event against her seven native-bred two-year-old rivals.
Owned by Vintage Bloodstock, Stunner made all the running to win emphatically ahead of Golden Glory (Aaron Chatrie) and Vision of Gold (Robert Halledeen). The winning time was 1:27:0 minutes behind splits of 23:3, 46:4 and 1:12:3 minutes.
Glispie said that he was pleased with his charge’s effort.
“It was a really good performance by Stunner as she was running disapprovingly the last couple of times and turned around that form to win here today (Saturday),” Glispie said.
“All along we knew that Stunner wanted a distance of ground, so when we saw this seven-furlong event, we said that is the right race for her and she came out and made us proud.
“We knew that she has pace and speed and the plan was just to put her in front and leaving the half-mile just send her on her way and whoever wanted to come could do so, but she (Stunner) won easily and I am happy for her,” he further said.
