Man steals air freshener
A man who tried to leave a supermarket with a bottle of air freshener hidden in his waist claimed he committed the act so that he could appear before the court and get help for his drug addiction.
Radcliffe Hart, 52, of Barbican Way, St Andrew, was arrested and charged with shoplifting after he went to Hi-Lo Supermarket at Pavilion Mall, Half-Way-Tree and tried to leave the store with the item, valued at $1,204, without paying.
On Thursday when he appeared in court, Hart told Magistrate Simone Wolfe-Reece that he did not intentionally steal the air freshener when he was asked why he tried to steal that item in particular.
“I do it so I could come here and get help,” Hart told the court after pleading guilty to the offence.
Your smartness knows no bounds,” the magistrate then told Hart before he was remanded for Drug Court later in November.
