Queen’s cruise past St Hugh’s in urban netball
DEFENDING champions The Queen’s School registered a convincing 43-13 goal win over St Hugh’s High in their Junior League encounter as the 2015 Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) Urban High Schoolgirls Junior and Senior League netball competitions continued at the Leila Robinson Courts last Tuesday.
The Junior and Senior League competitions continue today with 10 matches with the first round scheduled to start at 2:15 pm.
It was The Queen’s third win from four starts and a draw in the second round as they clinched their berth in to the semi-finals with one game remaining, which will be against Ardenne High to be played today.
The Queen’s lead Group Two in the points standings with 10 points, followed by Holy Childhood in second place with nine points to face Camperdown in their final match. St Hugh’s were losing their second match in four outings, winning one and drawing the other with their final game to be played against Tarrant High
Meanwhile, the Dalton Hinds-coached Gaynstead High maintained their unbeaten run in the Junior League with a 25-13 win over Meadowbrook High to chalk up their third win of the second round. They are in second place on nine points behind leaders Norman Manley with 12 points in Group One. Both will meet today to determine the winner of the group.
Gaynstead are the only team to have beaten defending champions, The Queen’s School and that was in the preliminary round. Gaynstead have two games remaining; one against Norman Manley today and the other scheduled for Monday against Campion College.
The results of the other Junior League games had Norman Manley beating Excelsior High 20-16, Holy Childhood outscored Ardenne High 23-18, Alpha Academy got past Campion College 18-14, Camperdown beat Tarrant High 15-13 inside the third quarter as a result of rain which ended the match.
Only two Senior League matches were played, which ended inside the third quarter as a result of rain. Holy Childhood defeated Campion College 38-9, and Norman Manley beat Excelsior High 23-9.
In today’s Junior League matches: Alpha Academy vs Excelsior High; Campion College vs Meadowbrook; The Queen’s School vs Ardenne; St Hugh’s vs Tarrant at 2:15 pm; Camperdown vs Holy Childhood; Gaynstead vs Norman Manley at 3:00 pm.
In Senior League action: St Andrew Technical (STATHS) vs Excelsior; St Catherine High vs Tarrant at 3:00 pm; The Queen’s School vs Norman Manley; Camperdown vs Holy Childhood at 3:45 pm; St Hugh’s vs Meadowbrook; Gaynstead vs Campion College at 4:00 pm.
