LOOKING BACK: Jahmiel took on the world
With just over five weeks to go before 2015 ends, the Jamaica Observer reaches out in this tri-weekly slot to entertainment personalities for their views on what the year meant to them. We kick things off with singer Jahmiel.
LAST year, Jahmiel had a much-publicised split from Young Vibes Productions which managed him for five years. But the dreadlocked artiste said he maintained momentum with the song Gain The World.
“Gain The World has brought me to a lot of people’s attention…It’s as if this is my first entry on the music scene, when I’ve been around for some years now,” he told Splash. “In my eyes this year was a successful one looking back at where I’m coming from.”
Arguably his biggest song to date, Gain The World made VP Records’ popular Strictly The Best compilation album, a badge of honour in dancehall circles.
He added that True Colours, produced by the Konsequence Muzik Group, and Cold Floor, produced by Quantanium Records, also did well in Jamaica and on regional charts and radio in the United States.
Another high point was performing in Grenada in July at Grenada Fest alongside homegrown acts Brother B, Mr Killa, Squeeze Head, and Coxilus.
Jahmiel, 23, has been recording since he was 12 years old. He anticipates a busy 2016.
“I want to do [more] shows overseas because, truth is, people are requesting the movement… I’m also expecting more hit songs because Jahmiel is a determined individual,” he said.
