St George’s clip wings of Eagle Strikers in KO chase
PORT ANTONIO, Portland — Former champions St George’s Sports Club clipped Eagle Strikers 1-0 in their first-leg quarter-final Portland FA/Portland Credit Union Knockout game at Carder Park on Sunday.
The lone goal was scored by Tyrone Brown in the 92nd minute.
Playing under slippery conditions, both teams adjusted early and launched raids against each other.
Eagle Strikers attacked through Dwayne Waits, Dwayne Willis, Hayden Street and Jammarie Tracy.
St George’s countered through Akeem Anderson, Tayjay Anderson, Tyrone Brown and Ronjay Hill, but both set of attackers found goals hard to come by.
As they did in the first half, both teams came out aggressively on the resumption as they searched for the go-ahead goal.
In time added, St George’s took the lead when Brown drove down the left flank to fire home past custodian Dwayne Willis at his near post.
The decisive leg will be on December 10 at Lynch Park.
On Thursday, defending champions Manchioneal will travel to Canewood where they will play Hope Bay, who defeated Norwich 4-1 on aggregate.
